Various Local Voices: Citizen Conversations on Civil Liberties and Secure Communities. The Local Voices project is a national initiative to foster a public dialogue about the balance between civil liberties and homeland security. Come learn about and discuss the findings from a recently released report that presents national and local views on topics including; secret searches, granting law enforcement additional authority to access personal records, preserving a system of checks and balances, and other related issues. The program will also include a comparison of the PATRIOT Act reauthorization bills that have been passed by the House of Representatives and reported out of the Senate Judiciary Committee. Voting Rights Act Conference. Learn more about the Federal Voting Rights Act, an important piece of civil right legislation, some provisions of which will expire in 2007. The material is intended to help de-mystify the funding process and provide background information that will allow voters to make informed decisions. The presentation will address federal, state, local and private sources of funding and the processes used to allocate funds to LAUSD and the Los Angeles Community College District.
