Why and How to Join This Grassroots Organization. See this special message from National president Elizabeth MacNamara.
Citizenship is more than just something to hold. It's a hands-on responsibility, one to be exercised that strengthens the individual and the democratic process. At the League of Women Voters of Los Angeles, we believe that our democracy and our institutions can only be as strong, vibrant and accountable as the people they represent and serve are informed and engaged. And through the public policy studies we conduct, the unbiased voter information we distribute, the civic engagement education we provide and the advocacy work we do, we give the people of Los Angeles the knowledge and resources they need to be active, informed and effective participants in civic life.
Who are the members?
Membership in the League of Women Voters, the most respected and effective grassroots organization in the country, is open to men and women of all ages.
Our members make a visible difference by serving as community leaders using their experience to create positive, lasting change in our communities.
Why should I join?
Through participation in League projects, you will:
- contribute valuable service to the community
- gain knowledge and experience through the study and discussion of timely and important topics
- discover new interests, develop new skills and learn about crucial issues in your community
- make professional contacts and develop lasting friendships as you meet others in League who share your interests
How much time does it take?
It's up to you! Many members choose to support the League only with their annual dues. Your membership alone gives us the political influence needed to build a voice for citizens and a force for change. We cover a broad spectrum of issues and concerns; you may choose to become involved in one or more of them by actively participating in a group study, or listening to a panel of experts at a meeting or just reading about them in one of our publications.
What do I get?
You automatically become a member of the Los Angeles County Inter-League Organization, LWV California and LWV of the United States. You will receive their publications along with the newsletter from the Los Angeles League of Women Voters called VOTER which is usually published 6 times each year . You will have the knowledge that you are adding your voice to a powerful force of members from all 50 states, Washington DC, the Virgin Islands, and Hong Kong.
How do I join?

New Members
Tamra Pink
Tamra has more than 16 years experience in neighborhood revitalization, community and fundraising (development), two terms of city government experience, marketing, sales and public advocacy. Tamra attended Mott College and Azusa Pacific University. Her work in both the for-profit and non-profit industries has given Tamra deep insight and a varied skill-set. In addition to these great attributes, she is the proud wife of a Veteran who served our country faithfully for 21 years in the United States Army, the proud mother of three adult children and 2 beautiful grand daughters.

Rhianon Anderson
Rhianon (Ree-anne-nun, it rhymes with Shannon) is from the Bay Area originally, but spent the last few years attending college at UC San Diego. She moved to Los Angeles upon graduation to work on a mayoral race, and currently interns for a political consulting firm.
She decided to join the League because she wants to be part of a group of people who are active and involved in the community, but in a thoughtful, respectful, and inclusive way. She is looking forward to being involved in the League in the upcoming year and has already attended our Speaker Bureau training!
Meghan Sahli-Wells
Meghan is a Councilmember and community organizer in Culver City.
CEO of the nonprofit Downtown Neighborhood Association, she is co-founder of the Culver City Bicycle Coalition, and organizer for Transition Culver City (local chapter of an international environmental group). She served as the Culver City Democratic Club's 2nd and 1st Vice-President in 2011 and 2012 respectively.
Awarded Democrat of the Year by the L.A. County Democratic Party in 2010, Meghan was recognized by the National Women's Political Caucus L.A. Westside chapter as one of 12 "Remarkable Women" of 2012.
Elected in April 2012, she is the 5th woman elected to the Council in the Culver City's 95 year history.
Angelica Daus
Angi Daus is originally from Wisconsin. She received her undergraduate degree in Political Science and Public Administration from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh in 2006 and did a graduate degree in Nonprofit and Public Administration from Metropolitan State University in St. Paul, MN in 2012. She is a Program Associate for Coaching Corps, a nonprofit organization that uses sports and service to improve the health, educational and social outcomes for kids living in struggling communities. She enjoys reading, cooking and eating, the outdoors and gardening. She joined the League of Women Voters to stay engaged and learn more about the California political landscape.
Barbara Taylor
Barbara Taylor has experience as a teacher. She is the mother of three girls and a boy. She had extensive service for twenty years as a volunteer speaker for Planned Parenthood, talking mostly to ninth graders about Sexuality, Birth Control, Teen Pregnancy, STD's and Healthy Relationships. Barbara also speaks Spanish and gave some talks in Spanish. When her husband, Ted, retired, they took up ballroom dancing and started taking Elderhostel tours and cruises. Barbara felt so grateful for the League's help in evaluating the propositions and candidates that she felt compelled to join!
2013 Annual Membership Meeting
On June 8, California Assemblymember for the 54th District, Holly Mitchell was honored as the guest speaker at the LWVLA 2013 Annual Membership meeting.
