Voter Service: One Stop Voting Shop

On June 19, 2013, the City Council voted to place the citizen sponsored initiative ordinance deemed sufficient by the City Clerk entitled "Creation of a City of Los Angeles Public Health Department Initiative Ordinance" on the June 3, 2014 Statewide Primary Election ballot. In addition to electing representatives for statewide and Los Angeles County offices, registered voters of the City of Los Angeles will have an opportunity to decide whether or not to establish its own, independent City Public Health Department.

The ballot summary as prepared by the City Attorney's Office states: The ordinance would preclude the City's current practice of contracting with the County of Los Angeles for the enforcement of public health laws. The ordinance specifies that the City's Public Health Department would be the only governmental entity authorized to regulate and enforce City and County public health laws within the City of Los Angeles. The ordinance would provide that costs for the creation of the City Public Health Department be derived from current fees paid to the County of Los Angeles for the County's enforcement of public health laws in the City of Los Angeles. The ordinance also would allow for future revenue to be generated by collections of fees associated with the regulation and enforcement of the Public Health Code."

Voter Service provided by LWVLA include:

• Voter Registration: LWVLA provides nonpartisan voter registration services at large public gatherings, or on request, at events or businesses for the benefit of participants or employees. LWVLA is committed to designing ways to increase voter participation in diverse communities. We work closely with the County Registrar on voter outreach projects.

• Candidates Forums: The League is known for sponsoring candidate debates. LWVLA organizes, presents, and moderates local debates at the request of co-sponsoring entities. Currently scheduled forums are listed in the Calendar.

The Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk (RR/CC) has introduced the new E-Sample Ballot subscription. The new service provides voters the option to receive their Official Sample Ballot booklet and other important election information via email; bringing a new level of on the go convenience to elections. E-Sample Ballot subscription is part of the County's effort to make election information more conveniently available to more voters.

Registered voters can subscribe for E-Sample Ballot by visiting: https://lavote.net/secured/e_sb/. The subscription process is fast and secure, and only requires a few clicks. After the subscription is confirmed, the voter receives a link to their Official Sample Ballot and other important election information via email, at least 30 days prior to every election. Subscribers will automatically receive their election information via email, every election and will no longer have to be mailed a hard copy of their Official Sample Ballot to their home address. Voters can unsubscribe at any time.
